 Бислойная липидная мембрана (БЛМ)
  Тонкая пленка, состоящая из двух монослоев липидных молекул упорядоченных таким образом, что их гидрофобные части обращены друг к другу, а гидрофильные части образуют две внешние поверхности. Эта структура реализуется в большинстве биологических мембран, включая мембраны клетки, и поэтому имеет абсолютную ценность для всех форм жизни на Земле.
 
 БЛМ служит барьером и поддерживает неравновесную концентрацию веществ в цитоплазме. Схема структуры плазматической мембраны. Мембрана содержит сильно связанные собственные (интегральные) белки, которые пронизывают двойной липидный слой и слабо связанные белки на внешней стороне. Также присутствуют включения холестерина и сахарозные цепи белков на поверхности
