  Способность материала поглощать механическую энергию в процессе деформации и разрушения под действием ударной нагрузки. Обычно оценивается работой, необходимой для деформации и разрушения призматического образца с односторонним поперечным надрезом при испытании на ударный изгиб, условно отнесённой к сечению образца в основании надреза. Ударная вязкость - одна из наиболее важных прочностных характеристик металла.
