Метод анализа поверхности, основанный на регистрации энергетических спектров электронов, возникающих вследствие внешнего фотоэффекта при облучении исследуемого объекта электромагнитным излучением рентгеновского диапазона спектра. Используется также термин «электронная спектроскопия для химического анализа», (ЭСХА).
