  Молекула или молекулярный комплекс, который повышает интенсивность сигнала, детектируемого приборами для построения изображений, в том числе методами магнитного резонанса и ультразвуковой спектроскопии. Например, контрастный агент для получения изображения методом магнитного резонанса может содержать гадолиний, связанный с антителом против клетки-мишени. Антитело присоединяется к конкретной мишени – например, клетке метастатической меланомы, тогда как гадолиний увеличивает магнитный сигнал, детектируемый магнитно-резонансным томографом.
