  Процесс, относящийся к плоской печати, при которой печатающие и пробельные элементы печатной формы расположены на одном уровне и обладают способностью избирательного смачивания краской и отталкивания ее. Литография открыта в 1798 г. немецким изобретателем А. Зенефельдером во время поисков новых способов тиражирования нот, которые не было возможности набирать типографским способом, и они переписывались от руки. Изобретение отличалось в принципе от всех ранее известных печатных техник. (см. нанолитография).
